Adrien.L
CEO of Someizz LLC
Introduction :
Someizz is an e-commerce company operating in the Amazon universe. It is divided into two pillars. The first is dedicated to the sale of physical products such as skipping rope, and offers training exercises based on its use. The second pillar focuses on optimisation services for Amazon sellers, such as keyword research, creation of product pages, etc. Someizz focuses on quality, efficiency, accuracy and, above all, customer satisfaction.
Origins of the company :
The birth of Someizz: I'm Adrien.L, originally from Aube in Champagne (long live the champagne!). I led a fairly standard life as a 'civil servant', but I won't say any more about that for the moment. Basically, my life resembled that of many others: metro, work, sleep... with the sole aim of providing for my family and perhaps, in the more or less distant future, acquiring a small farm in a quiet area and setting up a small inn there. However, my life was completely turned upside down when my partner left me on a Friday 13 January 2017 (so I hate Fridays the 13th, LOL) to go and live with one of my very close friends.
This event completely changed my life.
First of all, for about 6 months it was impossible for me to find new life goals. I couldn't imagine my life without my ex... Maybe you recognise yourself in this situation. As a young teacher in a rather special school where I teach maintenance on particular systems, I decided to refocus on this passion in order to become the best for my learners. My aim was to enable them to acquire as many skills as possible with as little effort as possible.
But how could I achieve this?
At the time, I only had the Internet at my disposal, in particular YouTube, which is full of resources. While searching for content, I came across someone I consider a master in the field, my mentor, Mr ABERKAN Idriss. He's a specialist in neuroscience, among other things. I've learnt an enormous amount by attending his lectures and reading his books. At the same time, I also discovered personal development thanks to another great French coach, Mr LAROCHE David. His videos totally changed my perception of things and enabled me to rebuild myself on new foundations, with new life goals.
To give you a concrete example, I've been wanting to learn English for a few years, but I've always been bad at school (all I've got is a BEP in electrical engineering) and I don't even know how the Académie française managed to give it to me, LOL. Whether it was my own ineptitude or bad teachers... or maybe a bit of both, LOL. After about 8 years of English at school, the famous "Brian" was still in the kitchen, MDR!!!! Those of my generation will know what I'm talking about. In short, I couldn't form a simple sentence in English, because every year I spent my time trying to learn irregular verbs... The French education system asks students to learn a whole range of things, but in my opinion it forgets one fundamental step. We're all told: "Learn this, learn that...". Yes, BUT!!! How do you learn?
Thanks to my new activities, I've been able to put simple things in place that have enabled me to learn to speak English properly in just 3 years. Today (July 2023), I speak English with ease. All this to say that by using the right tools, learning is no longer a challenge.
New life = new goals.
Learning English, among other things, opened my mind to the fact that France is not THE WORLD. Talking to people from different countries such as the USA, Australia, China, Colombia, Nepal and many others motivated me to follow travel YouTubers who shared their experiences. Given that I didn't have the financial means to travel myself, this solution enabled me to discover a few nice places on the surface, including the Philippines! To this day, I still follow the videos of Finn Snow, an Icelandic YouTuber who has travelled extensively and now lives in the Philippines, showing us this magnificent country through his videos. One of his main activities is diving, which is a childhood dream for me. As you may have gathered by now, my new life goal is to move to the Philippines and enjoy what its magnificent landscapes have to offer, both on land and underwater.
OK, that's all very well, but how do I go about it?
My plan, bearing in mind that I only have one life and I don't intend to waste it doing nothing, is to find a way of gaining three advantages that are the pillars of my future:
1/ Find a way to become geographically free.
2/ Find a way to become financially free.
3/ Finding a way not to spend all my days working.
That's how I came up with the idea of going into e-commerce, which brings together the three essential points I need.
At the time, I knew absolutely nothing about business. So I had to learn.
Beware of all the adverts that sell you things like "earn €10,000 a month without doing anything", it's totally false. It's a very long and important job, because you have to learn a whole range of new and varied skills. Unless, of course, you already have substantial financial resources that allow you to delegate...
Personally, I had no money to spare, I'd even say I was constantly overdrawn on my bank account. So the first thing I had to do was find ways of earning a bit of money here and there to get my bank account back to zero. I did a lot of odd jobs, like doing odd jobs for neighbours, that sort of thing...
The second thing was to educate myself about financial management, because unfortunately school didn't teach me anything about that. And yes, the more you spend willy-nilly, the more the state benefits...
I based my learning on references in the field such as "Rich father, poor father" by Robert T. Kiyosaki, "The 4-hour week" by Timothy Ferriss, and numerous YouTube videos. In the space of a few months, I was able to put my bank account back in the black and pay for an e-commerce course focusing mainly on the Amazon platform (January 2021). During the time I was taking the training and setting up all sorts of things, I was able to open my micro-business in June of the same year. Someizz was born!
Someizz was launched in June 2021. It all started with a French micro-enterprise, because it was easier to manage when you'd never done business before. Well... "easier" is a big word, because this status includes a few subtleties that are difficult to understand as a beginner.
URSSAF deducts around 12.3% of your turnover in addition to an annual tax, because you have to declare your turnover on income tax (double taxation). What's more, even if you don't make any profits, you're still taxed, because this is a tax on turnover and not on profits. In a nutshell...
With the help of a training course on the https://amazon.fr/ platform, I launched my first product:
a simple skipping rope, but of high quality compared with the materials used in its manufacture. I was very satisfied with my first product to be sold under the registered trademark (Elistizz). However, sales didn't take off. I'm selling an average of 70 products a month despite all the advertising, which is very few. What's more, this product is not at all profitable. Between the cost of buying it and all the expenses involved in selling it (taxes), in the end I have to add money out of my own pocket every month. The first year was not a success.
First failure.
For the second year, I've decided to stay in the jump-rope niche, because I really enjoy this sport (I do it myself). So I launched a more specific model with aluminium handles, ball bearings, steel cables sheathed in a more resistant material than my competitors, and a storage case instead of a simple cardboard box, etc. Everything was in place for this product to sell well and for customers to be satisfied. Everything was in place to ensure that this product would sell well and that customers would be satisfied.
Result: very few sales... My personal conclusion is that Amazon customers would rather spend €10 several times on a poor-quality product than spend €45 once on a good one. As I write this, it's July 2023 and I've still got 12 of the 200 cords I ordered in July 2022 to go.
Second failure.
During this second year, one of the challenges was to find a solution to pay less tax and build a more solid base for the future. So I decided to switch from micro-business status to a company. But what type of company should I choose from the various interesting options for e-commerce? In France, SASU (Société par Actions Simplifiée Unipersonnelle) and SAS (Société par Actions Simplifiée) are interesting. However, given my desire to change my country of residence, I opted for an American LLC, which stands for "Limited Liability Company". An LLC is a legal form of company in the United States that offers limited liability protection to the owners, known as 'members'. This structure is often chosen by entrepreneurs and small businesses, as it combines the benefits of limited corporate liability with the flexibility and simplicity of managing partnerships. As a limited liability company, an LLC allows its members not to be personally liable for the debts and obligations of the business, thus protecting their personal assets in the event of bankruptcy or litigation.
What's more, if one day I decide to sell this company, it will be much easier to find a buyer for an LLC than for an SASU, for example.
And yes, once again, France is not the world, LOL. Someizz LLC was born in October 2022.
In April 2023, given the very low sales, I decided to move on to a product that was increasingly in demand from customers: a skipping rope connected to an app. It's July 2023, and this product is not yet available, because new challenges have arisen.
Amazon is far from a perfect machine. In May 2023, Amazon blocked my seller account for different reasons every time I contacted them... Amazon's seller support is a disaster, as any seller will tell you. The situation was made worse by an additional event: Amazon Germany decided, without any justification, that I owed them around €3,740, even though I'd never sold or stored a single product there...
After dozens and dozens of contacts to find a solution for reactivating my account (without success), I decided to concentrate in another direction.
The first year, I created a website for my brand (Elistizz) on WordPress. It was a real gas factory for beginners like me. If a customer wanted to buy one of my products, they were redirected to Amazon. So I was always dependent on Amazon with this approach.
My aim was to get out of the Amazon bubble. This presented me with new challenges, the biggest of which was finding customers. When you sell on Amazon, the customers are already there. All you have to do is show them your products, and if they're interested, they'll buy. On the other hand, when you sell on your own website, there are no customers. So you have to find ways of attracting customers.
So I decided to take things to another level. As WordPress had blocked updates on my site and there was no customer support to contact to resolve this issue, I opted for another solution...
And no, not Shopify, LOL. I chose Odoo ERP, which offers a really interesting solution that's much simpler than WordPress and meets my needs. What's more, they have customer support!
So I've created three websites with Odoo.
The first is a showcase site, the one you're currently on (https://someizz.com%29%2C/ which represents my company, as you'll have gathered by now.
The second website, https://elistizz.com%2C/ is dedicated to selling physical products, where I also offer exercises using a skipping rope, of course.
The third website, https://allonizz.com%2C/ is dedicated to Amazon sellers who want to optimise their sales on this platform. Even though I haven't yet had any personal success on Amazon, I have nevertheless acquired quite advanced skills in certain areas, particularly in the use of a tool that is practically indispensable for any Amazon seller, the Helium 10 tool.
What's special about Helium 10 is that it's more like a toolbox with lots of tools inside, each offering very powerful services when you know how to use them. However, Helium 10 is not available in French!
This is where my English skills come into play to my advantage. Helium 10 offers courses on how to use their tools. So I decided to study all the courses and apply them to optimise my product sheets as well as those of some of my fellow Amazon sellers. In fact, one of them is currently in the top 10 at the time of writing.
With Allonizz, I'm offering to put my acquired skills at the service of sellers who want to take advantage of them.
Today, finding customers is the stage that requires the most work, because I have to learn how to use networks such as Facebook Ads, Google Ads, TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, etc. It's a really difficult challenge, because the market is saturated with ads. It's a really difficult challenge, because the market is saturated with advertising. So it's very difficult to stand out when you're a newcomer and you haven't mastered the use of all these tools, which require really advanced skills to get results.
What's more, everything takes longer to set up when the budget is very low and my time to work on my business is limited to evenings and weekends.
Let's go back to a more personal level for a moment. I've been maried with an English lady for almost a year now. My wife, Amie, lives on the south coast of England while I live in the centre of France. Life sometimes throws us a few surprises.
So there's one more step in the equation. This summer (August 2023), I have to start looking for a new job in England so that I can live with my wife. This is an intermediate step until I can live exclusively from my commercial activity and fly to the Philippines, Thailand or another country in this part of the world.
